Write for CR
We are looking for three writers. Connoisseurship Roadshow is an independent magazine about craftsmanship, taste and the people who have spent a life getting good at something. Two print issues a year, reported on the road, plus original pieces on the site in between.
The writers we want are early in this and serious about it. You work directly with the editor on every piece, from finding the subject to the final read. That is the offer. It is not a submissions inbox and we are not looking for finished articles.
What CR Publishes
A person, not a place
The subject is someone who has spent years getting good at one thing. The shop, the kitchen or the workshop is how you get in the door, not the story itself.
Craft you can watch happen
Glassblowers, roasters, distillers, bakers, luthiers, gardeners, tattooers, marble makers, neon benders, pinball restorers. If somebody built the skill by hand over years, it belongs here.
Reported in person
You go, you look, you ask, you record. CR runs on first-hand reporting. That is the whole premise of a roadshow.
The test we apply to everything is simple. Is this piece about someone’s mastery of a craft? Good stories fail that test all the time and we still turn them down.
What It Is Not
- ■Product reviews and roundups.
- ■Business and funding stories. A company growing is not a craft.
- ■Events, causes and awards coverage.
- ■Interviews written up as a straight question and answer transcript.
- ■Anything about a subject you have not met in person.
What You Get
A byline on a real magazine with a real reader, an author page on this site, a printed copy of any issue your work appears in, and an editor who will actually work the piece with you rather than send it back with a note. Every published piece is a clip you own and can use anywhere.
CR does not pay contributors yet. We are independent and small and we would rather say that plainly at the top than discover it together later. Nothing here is exclusive. You keep the right to republish your own work once it has run with us.
Becoming a Correspondent
Write three to five pieces we are glad to publish and you become the CR correspondent for where you live. Your city goes on the masthead next to your name, you get a standing line to pitch on rather than applying each time, and when the roadshow eventually comes through your part of the world, you are the person we call first.

Five minutes. We read every one ourselves and you will hear back either way. If it is a fit, the next step is shaping your subject into a pitch together. Nothing gets written before that.
